Upfront surgery vs radiotherapy for laryngeal cancer: descriptive study on the complications from rural cancer centre

Background: Significant shifts in therapy paradigms for advanced laryngeal carcinoma have occurred more recently. The number of patients receiving surgery alone has significantly decreased, while the radiotherapy and chemoradiotherapy increased. Both treatment modalities its own advantages disadvantages. present study is a consideration to compare complication rate both cancer. Methods: head neck oncosurgery department at Kolhapur cancer center Maharashtra conducted five-year retrospective record analysis treated larynx [2017-2022]. current included all with histopathologically confirmed Results: Of 24 cases if upfront surgery, 8 had complications post RT, 6 this difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). There between pharynocutaneous fistula rates among two groups. were higher Conclusions: most common fistula. stomal stenosis. Pharynocutaneous when compared surgery.
